TSF held its 36th Annual Golf Tournament on September 19 at Bear Hill Golf Club in Stoneham. Cloudy skies did not dampen the spirits of the 64 golfers who were provided the ground rules for the scramble format by Bear Hill Pro Toby Ahern and TSF Golf Tournament Chair Mike Boudreau. Following the tournament, the golfers enjoyed a buffet dinner along with a fundraising raffle and silent auction of 24 prizes. Long-time tournament organizer Tom Merchant was also remembered fondly at the event for his support of TSF and dedication to Wakefield students.
Trophies and Pro Shop gift certificates were awarded for First, Second, and Third Place teams, with Rob Curley, Chris Connelly, Mike Hale, and Bill Hanifan taking home the First Place Award with a score of 60; Bob Curran, Dave Curran, John Hourihan, and Brian Cannata followed closely with a score of 61 to finish in Second Place; and the team of Tom Covelle, Paul Driscoll, Bill Carney, and Greg Strilekis finished in Third Place with a 62.
Pro Shop gift certificates were also presented for a number of individuals awards including for the Longest Drive earned by Luke Martin; Closest to the Line won by Jeff Power; and Closest to the Pin awards on the four (4) par-three holes were captured by Chris Calnan, Matt Yardumian, Chris Connelly, and John Kelley.
TSF is grateful to the four event sponsors: the Wakefield Co-operative Bank, the Wakefield Daily Item, Middlesex Gases, and SVB Private. In addition, the Wakefield Co-op provided Titleist golf balls for the players and the Daily Item supplied stylish trophies for the top teams. Special thanks also go to Sardella Sign & Graphics for the generous assistance with signage.
