The Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield, Inc. (TSF) is proud to announce the establishment of the Town Admin. Stephen P. Maio Fund, created to honor Steve’s retirement after 17 years of service as Wakefield’s Town Administrator.
Steve graduated from WMHS Class in 1980, during which time his father served as Wakefield’s Superintendent of Schools. Steven went on to earn a degree in International Economics from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in 1984, followed by a law degree from Suffolk University in 1990.
Following seven years working for Salem Five, Steve began practicing law, opening up his own law office in 1995 in Danvers, and later relocating to Wakefield.
Steve and his wife Jean raised their three sons, Stephen, Justin, and Nicholas, in Wakefield. Deeply committed to the community, Steve served on the Greenwood School Council and the Zoning Board of Appeals before winning a seat on the Board of Selectmen, where he served from 1999 until his appointment to Town Administrator in 2008. In recognition of his many contributions, Steve was inducted into the WMHS Hall of Fame in 2016. As stated by his family: “Steve has served the Town of Wakefield with unequivocal devotion. His love for his hometown and the connection he has always felt toward this community make this scholarship a fitting way to honor him.”
The Town Admin. Stephen P. Maio Fund will become a permanent fund once it reaches a minimum balance of $10,000. Upon permanency, beginning the following June, an annual scholarship will be awarded in Steve’s name to a Wakefield student.
Contributions to the Town Admin. Stephen P. Maio Fund are encouraged to help the fund grow to a permanent level. Donations can be made to TSF of Wakefield, P.O. Box 321, Wakefield, MA 01880. Online donations can be made by visiting www.TSFofWakefield.org/donate. Please include the name of the fund with your donation, either on the check memo line or by adding a message/fund name with your online donation.
