The Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield, Inc. (TSF) is honored to announce the establishment of the John Doto Jr. Ice Hockey Scholarship as a permanent fund. Beginning in June 2026, a scholarship will be awarded in John’s name to a local student pursuing education beyond high school.
This fund was created to honor John, following his sudden passing, through the generosity of the Doto Family, the Crystal Community Club, and John’s many friends.
Known to many as “Dotes,” John spent his life on the ice. A talented goalie, he rose through the ranks of the Wakefield Youth Hockey program from the intramural to the Midget level, helping his team win the 1984 Massachusetts State Midget title. He was invited to train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and also played as a goalie at Hockey Night in Boston.
A 1986 graduate of Wakefield High, John began his coaching career at his alma mater before going on to Austin Prep in Reading and, most recently, Saint John’s Prep in Danvers. John was a longtime member of the Crystal Community Club, and is remembered by countless friends.
