The June Peterson Nursing Scholarship is now a permanent fund. Beginning in June of 2026, a scholarship will be awarded in June’s name to a local student pursuing nursing education beyond high school.
This fund was established by the Peterson family to honor a dedicated and compassionate nurse. June Peterson was a longtime resident of Wakefield and a graduate of Catherine Laboure School of Nursing, Emmanuel College, and Regis College. She was committed to the field of nursing and worked in the emergency rooms of Winchester, Melrose-Wakefield, and Lahey hospitals.
In addition, June was passionate about education, serving as a nurse educator at Mass General Hospital and MGH Institute for Health Professions as well as an Adjunct Professor at UMass Boston and Regis College. For her exceptional efforts, June was the recipient of multiple awards for excellence in nursing and teaching.
Supporting the victims of domestic violence was a cause that was deeply important to June. She served as a Victims Advocate in Lynn District Court, was on the board of HAWK (Healing Abuse Working for Change) in Salem and proudly served as a past president of the Wakefield Alliance Against Violence. She was also extremely passionate about the annual production of “The Yellow Dress” at Wakefield Memorial High School.
Donations to the June Peterson Nursing Scholarship are encouraged to help the fund grow and provide increased awards.
