A lifelong Wakefield resident, Louis M. Perillo had been with the Wakefield Department of Public Works for 36 years, many of them as supervisor. He was a member of St. Florence’s Parish and had recently moved to Kennebunk, Maine with his wife Cindy when he succumbed to lung cancer. A talented musician, he had been a member of many different bands over the years and had also written and recorded his own music. He was very artistic and enjoyed painting. Lou lost his courageous battle with cancer on January 23, 2008 at the age of 59. To commemorate his life, his family held a gala fundraiser at the Crystal Community Club where many of Lou’s talented musical friends performed including his daughter, Melissa Perillo with her band as well as Lou’s niece, Kathy Cooney, singing Lou’s original songs. Paul D’Angelo, a nationally recognized comedian and Wakefield native performed a special show.The establishment of a scholarship fund in his memory will insure that each year, students from Wakefield will be aided in the pursuit of a higher education in the field of music in memory of Lou.
