Kernan Scholarship Fund

This fund is the result of a bequest made in memory of three Wakefield sisters, all of whom were teachers. Mabel Kernan, who died in 1958, taught in Wakefield for 49 years. She began her career in 1899 at the Warren School and later transferred to the West Ward School, where she became principal until her retirement in 1948. Alice Kernan, who died in 1944, taught in Wakefield for 47 years. She was a teacher at the West Ward School from 1890 until her retirement and she served under five different school superintendents. Marion Kernan, who died in 1963, taught in the Fall River, MA school system. The administration of the Kernan Scholarship Fund was turned over to TSF in 1972. The fund has a preference for a student who attended West Side public elementary schools.
