Mr. Hendershot was a Superintendent of Schools in Wakefield for 15 years, a charter member of TSF of Wakefield, and a tireless supporter of opportunities for youth. He spent a day in Fall River, MA in 1960 with Dr. Irving Fradkin, founder of CSF of America, finding out how his “Dollars for Scholars” program worked. He brought the plan back to Wakefield for implementation. Wakefield became the most successful chapter in the United States. Mr. Hendershot was a pioneer in advocating for television as an educational tool. Many other new programs were introduced during his term including “New Math”, French in elementary schools, language lab at the High School, audio visual aids and a music program embracing all grades. He was an avid golfer and past President of the Rotary Club.
