She graduated from Lynn English High School and later, from Framingham Teacher’s College (now known as Framingham State College). Her teaching career of 38 years began in Everett and continued in Lynn. During World War II, she volunteered with the British Government as an ambulance driver in war-torn London and was later assigned to teach in London air raid shelters and classrooms. In 1944 she married Petty Officer Robert Buckley of the Royal Navy. They returned to America when the war ended. She was very active in the Wakefield Arts & Crafts Society as well as many other groups. She loved to travel and to research her English genealogy. She was known as the family historian and storyteller. Annis loved life and every day was an exciting adventure for her.
